About Shadows Of Deceit
Janet Sheperd returns to her hometown in 1999 to retrieve a photograph from her family's abandoned hotel before it is demolished. The photo is the only recent image of her best friend Isabelle, who vanished two years ago. What begins as a simple search through dusty rooms becomes something stranger as the building itself seems to resist her presence. Like Under Control +=-, this is a cinematic game where narrative and exploration are inseparable, and the form of the game itself is part of what it has to say. Hallways loop, time fractures, and spaces that don't belong start to bleed into the hotel: a university, a hospital, a school.
Shadows Of Deceit is a walking simulator where you move through interconnected environments and piece together what happened. The story unfolds not through cutscenes but through environmental detail and dialogue with Lucas, who accompanies you with a walkie-talkie. As you search for the photograph, you gradually uncover what Janet's mind has blocked out about the night Isabelle disappeared. The game treats memory and trauma as physical spaces you must navigate, and the building's impossible geography reflects a fractured consciousness.
The current build contains chapters 1 to 3 extended edition and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux in English. It suits players drawn to psychological thrillers and games where atmosphere and unease matter more than action, and those willing to sit with discomfort to reach understanding.
Developer's description
1999 โ HAVENBROOK, UNITED STATES.
Journalist Janet Sheperd returns to her hometown to find a photograph. It’s the only recent photo of her best friend, Isabelle Nox, who disappeared two years ago.
A memorial is being prepared. Janet needs that photo.
The photo is hidden somewhere inside her family’s old hotel, now abandoned and awaiting demolition. With her is Lucas, a childhood friend, and their old walkie-talkies.
But as Janet searches through dusty rooms and forgotten corridors, something shifts. Hallways repeat. Time fractures. Events loop. Voice on the walkie-talkie begins to change, saying things he shouldn’t know.
And other places start to bleed through the hotel: a university campus, a hospital, a school. Places where Janet lost something more than a friend. Places where she lost herself.
The deeper she goes, the more the building remembers.
And so does she.
To find the photo, Janet must uncover what really happened the night Isabelle vanished. The night her mind chose to forget.
Some places are abandoned.
Others are waiting.
