About Action & Guide

Action is a label that rarely means fast reflexes on this site. In most of the games filed here, the tag sits next to Adventure, Indie and Visual Novel, and the play is closer to reading and choosing than to fighting. Only a few lean on real-time input. The clearest example is Click-Her, a free clicker where speed drives the score, while summer story shows the other pole, a 2D story-rich branching tale with a choice of protagonist and several endings.

The adult content is common and the genre is mixed with it in different ways. Slaves of Rome is a real-time 3D game about a Roman slave owner, built around BDSM themes. Queen's Brothel adds strategy and RPG elements to a business story with many playable characters. These are the more mechanical entries, and they ask more of the player than a click-through story does.

Cabins, cities and two worlds

Settings repeat less than you might expect, though a few do rhyme. The Cabin, Summer Vacation and Cabin Corpse, Season 1 both place the player in a remote house, and both mix visual novel structure with horror. In Cabin Corpse the protagonist arrives with no memory and has to work out what the guests are hiding. Exploring the Big Apple is a grounded relationship story about a couple moving to New York, with nothing frightening in it. The Last Star Walker, Season 1 goes to fantasy, with two worlds held in a fragile balance and a codex for background reading.

Several of these are episodic or still in development. Early Access shows up on the cabin games, and The Last Star Walker is labelled as a first season, so expect stories that stop partway and continue later.

Tags that signal structure

Where tags exist, a few repeat: Multiple Endings, Choose Your Own Adventure, Interactive Fiction, Female Protagonist and Story Rich. They point to branching narrative as the typical way to play, with Action-Adventure used loosely. If you want something with a score or a clock, check each page, because the genre label alone will not tell you. The Visual Novel archive is the better route for pure story games.

Who can play these action titles, and in what language

Nearly all of the Action games run on Windows, and most also have a Linux build. About half have a macOS version, and some offer an Android APK. English is nearly universal. About half add Russian, Simplified Chinese, French or German, so translation coverage is better than in many niche genres. Anyone new to installing these projects can read how to install Ren'Py games before starting.
